WHAT IS IT?

Family therapy involves two or more family members, and focuses on the family system as a whole, as opposed to the individual. Your family would be my client, without any special alliance toward one family member. I will pay special attention to the unhelpful dynamics that are making you feel stuck, helping you become aware to these dynamics and teaching you new skills to replace old patterns.

Why would a family need a psychotherapist?

Sometimes families go through hardships or transitions, a member may be dealing with a significant mental health issue or addiction, there are too many issues of communication or past hurts within the family, or the family is blended racially or religiously and this is causing division and misunderstanding. These are only a few of the many reasons families seek help from a psychotherapist.

Some examples of outcomes of successful therapy may be gaining mutual understanding and increased empathy for one another, improving your communication, a stronger sense of attachment and family bond, and improved boundaries.
